Four European Groups Launch the Rebound SAF Project
Technip Energies, Airbus, Safran and Tereos announced on June 9, 2026 that they had entered into an agreement to create Rebound, a joint venture developing a large-scale sustainable aviation fuel project at the Port of Dunkirk in northern France.
The proposed facility is designed to produce approximately 160,000 tonnes of SAF per year using the Alcohol-to-Jet pathway.
At that scale, the partners say the project would become one of the largest Alcohol-to-Jet SAF facilities in Europe.
The companies have committed to financing the development phase, including engineering studies and other work required before a Final Investment Decision can be considered.
Dunkirk Site Connects Feedstock, Industry and Aviation
The project is planned for the Port of Dunkirk, one of France’s major industrial and logistics hubs.
Technip Energies has already been awarded an industrial site at the port for the project, giving Rebound access to infrastructure for receiving feedstocks and distributing finished fuel.
Tereos is expected to supply or source the advanced ethanol required for production.
The Alcohol-to-Jet process would convert advanced ethanol produced from agricultural and forestry residues into sustainable aviation fuel suitable for blending with conventional jet fuel.
Airbus and Safran are participating as industrial partners and potential SAF offtakers, linking the project directly to the aviation value chain.
The Project Still Has Several Milestones Ahead
Rebound has not yet reached Final Investment Decision.
The development programme still includes selecting the technology licensor, securing permits, carrying out pre-FEED and FEED engineering, finalising feedstock and SAF offtake agreements and arranging financing for construction.
The joint venture itself is also subject to customary closing conditions and approvals.
That makes Rebound a development-stage project rather than a plant already under construction.
Its significance lies in the scale of the proposed facility and in the combination of engineering, ethanol supply and aviation-sector partners within one European project.
If it advances through FID and construction, the planned 160,000-tonne annual capacity would make Dunkirk an important new SAF production location in Europe.
